Hi, I’m Alexandra McKay.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate. I work with adults and couples with concerns related to depression, anxiety, relationship conflict, trauma, life transitions, and mood-related disorders. My approach to therapy utilizes EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, sex therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy, and is informed by my training as a Neurodiverse Couples Therapist (see below).
I am passionate about building strong therapeutic rapport with my clients, and understand that the foundation of successful therapy lies in creating a safe and nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, understood and supported. Feel free to get in touch today with any questions you have!
I am committed to providing the highest quality of care for my level of expertise and practice under the supervision of Audie Whitaker, LCSW.
Eye Motion Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is an evidence-based therapy for treating trauma. I am EMDR-trained and pursuing certification by 11/2025.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT is an approach that research has demonstrated to be highly effective for treating depression, anxiety disorders, relationship problems, & severe mental health concerns.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
EFT is an approach that research has demonstrated to be highly effective for treating depression, anxiety disorders, relationship problems, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
I am a Level 1 Certified Emotionally Focused Therapist.
Somatic Experiencing (SE)
SE is a body-focused therapeutic approach that helps individuals release trauma stored in the body. SE is based on the understanding that trauma affects the nervous system and works to restore balance through mindfulness, movement, and somatic awareness. This approach is highly effective for addressing trauma, anxiety, and stress.
Neurodiverse Couples Therapy & Sex Therapy-Informed
I am an AANE-certified Neurodiverse Couples Therapist. For more information about AANE and neurodiversity in couples, click here. The additional training I’ve completed in sex therapy practices, under the guidance of Dr. Tammy Nelson, LPC, informs my work with couples and individuals. I am not a Certified Sex Therapist, although my training equips me to utilize sex therapy techniques.
